My husband and I absolutely love our biking lifestyle. Living in Wallingford (a Seattle suburb) in 2014, we kept getting parking tickets for leaving our cars parked in the same spot on our residential street for so many days. We even had some moss growing near the tires. We ditched the cars and never looked back.
It was certainly easier to support our car-free lifestyle when we lived in the city – lots of options for light vehicle usage such as busses, monorails, ZipCar, Car2Go, rental cars, Uber, Lyft, etc. When we moved to Vashon Island it was a little tougher without these options, and neighbors were very kind to let us borrow their cars here and there for a trip up to the grandparents or out to the mountains. Nowadays we are piloting a neighbor carshare with a minivan so technically we own part of a car now.
A couple years ago we asked a talented filmmaker friend to capture a family video highlighting this important part of our story – it’s so fun that Elliot is old enough to share our love of biking now, too! Here’s the gorgeous momento she created.
